Atlanta Officers Arrest Armed Convicted Felon with Active Warrants

On February 3, 2023, Atlanta Police officers, Officer Hurst, and Officer Duncan, became aware of a wanted person in the area of Victoria Pl. SW. The officers located the male they were looking for, who was out walking his dog.

While questioning the male, he began backing away and fleeing on foot while dragging his dog. While in the foot pursuit, the suspect reached into his waistband and pulled out a firearm. Fortunately, the suspect attempted to discard the firearm rather than use it. One officer deployed their taser and took the suspect into custody. The firearm that was discarded was quickly recovered.

The suspect was identified as Michael Hardeman. Mr. Hardeman had multiple warrants for Aggravated Assault out of the City of Atlanta and DeKalb County. He was also placed under arrested for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers.

The dog was unharmed during the incident and returned home.

The Atlanta Police Department commends the patience and courage these officers displayed during a dangerous encounter with an armed felon.
