Hi, it’s Patrik Hutzel from intensivecarehotline.com with another quick tip for families in intensive care.
So, here is an email from a reader and the reader says, “Hey Patrik, my dad is 80 years of age and he’s in ICU, on a ventilator with the tracheostomy. He doesn’t look like he can come off the ventilator and the tracheostomy anytime soon. He’s been there for three months after a stroke. Now I’ve heard about your service Intensive Care at Home. Is this something that can be provided for my dad at home? And who would pay for it? We are in Melbourne, Australia.”
So, here’s my tip. So if your dad is in ICU on a ventilator with the tracheostomy, and he can’t be weaned off the ventilator, he’s been there for three months. And the ICU team is probably talking about end of life, saying he won’t have any quality of life. They’ll give you all the doom and gloom.
Yes, Intensive Care at Home is 100% an opportunity for your dad. And we can look after your dad at home with our service Intensive Care at Home. Who’s going to pay for it? Well, the ICU has an interest in emptying their bed, which is why they’re pushing for end of life. ICU is having a shortage of beds and a shortage of staff, so they want your dad out. That’s their main goal.
An ICU bed costs around five to $6,000 per bed day. We can cut that cost approximately into half with Intensive Care at Home and who will pay for it? The hospital might pay for it, because they can cut the cost of the ICU bed in about half or the Department of Health will pay for it.
You should 100% contact us at intensivecareathome.com, to know how to go about the funding side of things. And a nursing home won’t take your dad. They can’t look after ventilation and tracheostomy, it’s simply an ICU nursing skill. And again, we can provide that at intensivecareathome.com.
Now, if you have a loved one in intensive care, in a similar situation, go to intensivecareathome.com or to intensivecarehotline.com where we provide professional consulting and advocacy for families in intensive care. And at Intensive Care at Home, we provide ICU nurses at home for ventilated and tracheostomy patients in Intensive Care at Home or for otherwise medically complex patients, including BiPAP (Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure) , CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) ventilation, tracheostomy care, home TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition), and the likes.
Contact us on one of the numbers on the top of our websites or send us an email to [email protected] or [email protected].
Also, have a look at our membership for families in intensive care at intensivecaresupport.org.
We also provide medical record reviews for families in intensive care, for patients in intensive care or after intensive care if you suspect medical negligence or any foul play.
