The Tu-160 was designed to fly at high subsonic speeds at extremely high altitudes to avoid detection by radar, and to carry nuclear weapons over long distances. The aircraft is capable of carrying up to 40,000 kg of weapons, including nuclear missiles, conventional bombs, and cruise missiles. The Tu-160 has a crew of four and is powered by four after-burning turbofan engines.
