Canada: Ministers Champagne and Anand on Chinese spy balloon, Buy America – February 10, 2023

In Washington, D.C., federal ministers François-Philippe Champagne (innovation, science and industry) and Anita Anand (defence) take questions from reporters following a discussion on the North American security partnership at the Wilson Center. They respond to questions on the Chinese surveillance balloon that passed over Canada and the United States last week as well as the federal government's reaction to President Joe Biden's pledge to strengthen his administration’s "Buy America" policy. Minister Anand also comments on the possibility of increased assistance to Turkey in the aftermath of the recent earthquakes. The ministers are visiting the U.S. capital to meet with business, industrial and political leaders to discuss economic and national security.
