What Will It Be Like? | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | March 17, 2023

The streets of the city were made of pure gold, clear as crystal. Revelation 21:21

In the famous song “I Can Only Imagine” by the band MercyMe, there are these lines:

Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel?
Will I dance for You Jesus
Or in awe of You be still?
Will I stand in Your presence
Or to my knees, will I fall?
Will I sing hallelujah?
Will I be able to speak at all?

It can be such an incredible thing to start to process — the reality of Heaven and what it will be like. What will we be like? What will it be like to see loved ones who have passed? What will it be to finally stand in the presence of our Savior and see Jesus face to face? Even now it’s overwhelming to start to think upon it. And just like the song, I cannot begin to imagine what it will be like when I’m finally there.

There is a lot that is wrong with this world. There is an aching in our hearts because we know it is not how it should be. But we feel that way because we were meant for something this world does not offer — we were created to have fellowship with the Lord. Sin marred that relationship. But Jesus payed the penalty so that our broken fellowship could be restored. Heaven is the culmination of it all. We must not cling too tightly on this life. We fix our eyes on the eternal!

Question for today: If Heaven is really real, how does that change my perspective in the day-to-day? What things become less important?

Pray: Thank You Lord for preparing a place for those who love You. We cannot imagine what Heaven will be like but we eagerly anticipate being there with You.
