Garfield Heights residents rescued from house fire after officer's heroic action

Residents in a Garfield Heights home were rescued from a house fire early Tuesday morning by a member of the city's police department.

According to the Garfield Heights Firefighters Local 340, at approximately 2:40 a.m., a Garfield Heights police officer noticed smoke near East 84th Street. The officer then discovered a house fire after investigating the source of the smoke.

The officer alerted dispatchers and took action to awake the residents inside the house to help them exit safely.

Initial reports suggested that there was a person was trapped on the second floor of the residence.

"Thank you to the C shift personnel that did an excellent job in stopping this fire from progressing any further and keeping it from spreading to the neighboring houses.
