Butternut Vase, 3 armed Elmwood lathe creation. woodturning to support O.U.R. at ArtForOUR.org
This was a challenging vase/bowl/sculpture to turn. The long arms made from the 3 branches are hard to work with because they make the lathe unbalanced dance all over the place if you go too fast...even my Laguna 18/36 which weighs a lot.... This was a little maddening as it never let me get above 600 RPM, which is really slow for me.... This beauty was made from salvaged Chinese elm wood I believe. The colors turned out amazing. I love seeing the transition from bark to inner wood and all the patterns and colors in between.

Here are my commonly used tools/equipment if you'd like to try them out....
- Lathe: (https://amzn.to/3orYsOy) this lathe is freaking amazing, very well built, solid, strong, variable speed, 110 or 220 volt. I couldn't have designed it better.
- Lathe tools: (https://amzn.to/3agd3ay) carbide tip, (https://amzn.to/3t5iMsA) great beginner set
- File Sander: (https://amzn.to/36o3hlE), this is the cheapest and highest quality I've found. Fantastic for those hard to get to sanding projects.
- Angle Grinder: (https://amzn.to/36lgewG), one of my most indispensable tools, (https://amzn.to/3iXtNHW) the flat head helps get into tight spaces, carving and sanding disks are a life saver.
- Grinder Carving Disk: (https://amzn.to/39oWqKG), this is a really great disk for roughing out medium sized projects
- Grinder Sanding Disks: (https://amzn.to/3cj91Rv), fantastic for sanding and minor-moderate shaping stages
- Round Sanding System: (https://amzn.to/3r11N8Q) sleeves go around an inflatable ball (https://amzn.to/2KVCUvW )or make your own foam ball, attaches to a drill, great for tight corners.
- Palm Sander: (https://amzn.to/3r1mJg8), the most important sanding tool, used on almost every job. I like the size of the sand paper for both this and on the lathe by hand.
- Chain Saw: (https://amzn.to/2MbWNj2), has worked well for years, I also bought this electric one (https://amzn.to/3qZOqpp) for the quieter in the garage projects
- Oscillating Tool: (https://amzn.to/3puK4q1) great for cutting and sanding sharp corners and tight spots.
- Super Glue: (https://amzn.to/3pFg5vT) thin and runny, perfect for stabilizing bark or other unstable wood.
- Resin: (https://amzn.to/3t7WSVo), one of the cheaper but higher quality, does it all resins. Great results.
- Pigments: https://amzn.to/3sYC5ng, great quality for resin
- Pressure Pot: (https://amzn.to/3tfp1u2) 5 gallon for the big resin projects to get rid of bubbles, or (https://amzn.to/3pwX0M8) for the smaller average jobs 2.5 gallon, both need minor modifications to work.
- Protection: (https://amzn.to/39t3lm0), best face shield yet for carving and lathe work

My goal is to pair my love for medicine/surgery, video, photography, art and wood projects with my campaign to raise awareness for Operation Underground Railroad (OURRESCUE.ORG), an amazing group fighting child sex trafficking around the world. I dabble in wood turning on the lathe, carving, painting with acrylics using pendulum and pouring techniques as well as different video projects with time lapse and other things I find interesting.
