I think, and this is coming from straight out of my ass, that Matt's father is supposed to be like a rich, callous, stick-in-the-mud jackass that uses peoples and then ditches them once they stop being useful to him, possibly doing the same to his family. If only the writing could convey this.

Rewatching and David Charvet is pretty much a more affordable Matt LeBlanc.
