TURKISH QUAKE: Planes And Drones Fly Non-Stop In Rescue Missions

Turkish airports are working round the clock to maintain emergency supplies and personnel in devastated quake-hit regions and evacuate the injured.

The creation of the air corridor has become vital to supply rescuers and equipment because of damage to roads caused by the disaster.

One video of the corridor in action shows rescuers and their vehicles being loaded onto a military transporter as they work through the night to reach stricken regions.

Another clip shows victims of the quake being wheeled on trolleys from a military ambulance plane into ambulances.

The medivac flights are being run round the clock into airports at Ankra and Instanbul, report local media.

Search and rescue teams and aid were carried into the disaster-hit regions by 37 aircraft in 154 flights.

In a statement obtained from the Disaster Emergency Crisis Desk Ministry of National Defense, they confirmed that an "Air Aid Corridor" was created to transport search and rescue teams to the region.

Turkey's Emergency Crisis Desk said: "Activities continued throughout the night, while search and rescue teams and their equipment and aid materials were transported to the earthquake area throughout the day.

"In this context, 154 sortie support flights were made with 37 aircraft, including A400M transport aircraft.

"Within the scope of the works, the injured taken from the earthquake area were also transported by planes."

Officials have also used sophisticated drones to identify worst-hit areas.

The ECD added: "Two Akıncı TİHAs, which were assigned to coordinate the works in disaster areas, continued their flights."
