The Battle of Gettysburg was fought July 1–3, 1863, in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, during the American Civil War. It was a decisive Union victory and is considered the turning point in the war. The battle resulted in 51,000 casualties, making it the bloodiest battle in American history. The battle also inspired Abraham Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address, a 272-word speech delivered on November 19, 1863.
