Mittleider Gardening Introduction

I love to Garden. There is just something amazing about planting a tiny seed and watching it grow into a productive plant. I have been gardening for about 40 years. (If you count the time spent at my mother's knee.) I have found that there is always more that I can learn. Learning about Mittleider Gardening has shown me new ways of looking at gardening.

My mother has been trying to get me to learn a different method of gardening, developed by Jacob Mittleider, for about 5 years now. I broke down and bought the book 2 years ago but she finally got me to read it by setting up a "gardening book club" with me.

Mittleider Gardening "Book Club"

Every morning at 5:30 am I would call my mother and we would discuss a chapter of The Mittleider Gardening Course book. At least it was supposed to be a chapter. The more I read, the more I wanted to read. I would send her text messages with updates on how many chapters I had read, so we could discuss it in the morning.

I couldn't help but get excited about the possibilities this method had. Jacob Mittleider, the creator of this method, developed this method of gardening after traveling all over the world and helping people to reach their full gardening potential. He found that the garden problems people had were very similar no matter what continent they were on.

Mittleider Course Book

This course book, which I recommend getting, is a compilation of the "recipes" for a successful garden.

I decided to document my experience with using the Mittleider method both as a way to keep me from straying from the recipe and to share a potentially great way of gardening with all of you.

Essentially, his method has you create a very basic soil and then add back the nutrients needed in the exact quantities needed for the best plant growth as well as introducing trellising and pruning ideas. His goal was to make gardening so simple that it could be done with his recipe in any area. It is really an in-depth book with answers to just about any question you might have.

He also has simple instructions on how to make many different tools for use in the garden and I will include those in the video series.

It is still late winter here but I cannot wait to try the Mittleider Gardening method and share my results.
