Chinese spy balloon, QUICK EVERYONE LOOK UP! | So, what's the real story?

It’s a curious thing to see a Chinese spy balloon that looks just like a weather balloon floating across the center of the United States. What is even more curious is to wonder why the administration decided that this story should captivate the entire countries attention. One has to wonder, what else was going on? Why should we all look up?

Spy games are nothing new, and to many peoples surprise, China has satellites capable of surveillance similar to what this spy balloon is able to achieve with even more precision. But there’s nothing exciting or captivating about satellites watching us on a daily basis. Spy balloons are exciting and have a monumental history in war.

During the Civil War, both the Federal and Confederate armies used balloons to spy on enemy locations. In one instance, General Porter of the Union Army floated uncontrollably over the Confederate troops creating an exciting target practice opportunity. He survived, but the balloon concept was retired before the end of the war.

In World War I balloons were sent up regularly for surveillance. Like General Porter the balloons became exciting targets for enemies and operators quickly learned the importance of parachutes.

During World War II Japan launched as many as 9,000 balloons over the United States. One of these balloons actually delivered a bomb and killed six people on a picnic in Oregon.

Surveillance balloons offer some advantages over other methods of spying. They can reach altitudes of 80,000 to 120,000 feet exceeding the hight of most fighter jets at 65,000 feet. Of course this balloon was only at 60,000 feet and within firing range. Perhaps the reason why Chinese authorities fired it’s weather service chief for miscalculating the nongovernment civilian airship and leaving it in harms way.

Balloons also carry a low heat signature making them a difficult target for missiles. When the F-22 finally hit the balloon they used an air to air self exploding missile.

So what was this ballon being used for? Maybe it was a test. DARPA has been exploring the use of lasers to determine atmospheric currents head of time and then controlling the gallons trajectory by rising and lowering its hight within the jet stream. While this is an interesting philosophy and China may have been testing similar technology, it should be noted that atmospheric winds can change faster than a balloon can change its altitude.

But if it were successful, spy balloons may be able to carry technology beyond the capabilities of a satellite. For example Lidar. Lidar can be used to scan the earths surface and find hidden treasures including ancient civilizations. While it’s no secret that there are missile silos in Montana below the balloons path, Lidar may expose additional operations hidden below the surface.

But Lidar is typically used on much faster moving aircrafts and the technology would most likely need to be significantly modified to be effective on a slow moving balloon.

Multispectral imaging is a similar technology to Lidar that would allow the Chinese to capture images of light that are naked to the human eye. MI can be used to measure variations in terrain to discover hidden buildings and vehicles. China launched two MI Satellites in 2019 just before releasing COVID 19. Perhaps this technology was less effective from space and they wanted a closer look at something.

As mentioned in our history lesson of World War II balloons could also be used as a weapons delivery program. From EMP’s to nuclear weapons, even the spread of biological agents.

So, while this balloon looks very similar to a weather balloon, it is in fact a surveillance balloon or worse, a weapons test. We know this with certainty because many of these weather balloons are incapable of guidance and rely on natural atmospheric currents for travel, but this particular Chinese spy balloon was able to navigate with precision along atmospheric currents from Montana, through Missouri, and into the Carolinas. Maybe, they used geo-engineering to steer the balloon to make it look like an un-controlled weather balloon.

The aerial surveillance of national security sites was tolerated until the balloon reached the Atlantic Ocean and Commander and Chief Biden had it shot down by an F-22 Stealth as millions of Americans watched online with cameras ready for action on the ground.

The question that nobody is asking, but leaves one curious in understanding, is why was this balloon such a big deal? It is a very curious question. Why did this story need to captivate the entire US for an entire weekend before coming to a dramatic end off the coast of the Carolina’s? Why did it deserve our attention?
