North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for the development of new intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and a larger nuclear arsenal in response to what he sees as US-led threats, according to state media. The announcement comes amid rising tensions between North and South Korea, following the intrusion of North Korean drones into South Korean airspace and a series of missile launches, including ICBMs, by North Korea.

In response to these actions, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has called for "solid mental readiness and practical training" to ensure that any North Korean provocations will be met with retaliation. This has further escalated tensions between the two Koreas, and has led to concerns about the potential for military conflict on the Korean Peninsula.
