Did you know that you can go to Mexico through Big Bend National Park? Well you can, and that's exactly what we did. There is an actual port of entry that is open from 9am to 4pm daily. You also need to bring your Passport with you if you plan on going. There is a park ranger that will answer your questions before you go. Then you follow a path down to the Rio Grande where you will take the International Ferry across for a charge of $5 round trip per person that you will pay once on the other side. Once across it is maybe a mile to get to the small town of Boquillas and you have the option to walk, ride a donkey or horse or ride in the back of a pick up truck. We were there for the whole experience so we rode the donkeys. They also assign you a guide to go with you at least they did with us, maybe they just thought we were trouble. Once you get into town you have to check in with Mexico's Customs and pay a $3 fee. Afterwards our guide showed us around town, we bought some souvenirs and grabbed a bite to eat at one of the restaurants before heading back. There is also a hot spring in the area that our guide offered to take us to but it was pretty hot outside so we declined. We had a good time and felt safe the entire time.
