Very busy Saturday night in Jakarta 🇮🇩

Have you ever wondered what Jakartans do on their Saturday evening? I got the answer! Last Saturday evening, a dry and relatively cool one, thousands of Jakartans flocked to the recently opened busway stations of Tosari and Bundaran HI as both of them now feature huge observation decks. You too can visit, you only need to be checked in, which will cost 3.000 rupiah, or less than 20 eurocent. And you can take the bus between both stops, of course.

With the Welcome Monument – right in the middle of the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, or Bundaran HI – as backdrop, many flock to these open air decks for their latest Instagram pictures and TikTok video’s. As thee are located away from the pedestrian zones downstairs, it’s more relaxed here. No less noisy though, as Jakarta evening traffic still crawls through the neighborhood as on any other day.

With the construction of Jakarta’s first MRT line a few years ago, many parts of Jakarta have turned into much more pedestrian friendly zones, thus enticing Jakartans to actually use those zones.
