Relaxed “Pot Shaped” Breathing

This is a relaxation technique that can be found in greater detail in Stephen Laberges book “Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming”

Begin by getting comfortable. Given how easy it is to fall asleep while laying down you may wish to perform this while sitting up. Whatever position you choose to take, be sure it is a comfortable one. It is recommended though that the first time you perform this technique is in a laying position, after this first practice though you should choose what best suits you.

Loosen your clothing around both your neck and your waist.

Take a long, slow inhalation followed by a long, slow exhalation. Then return to a breathing pattern that is slightly slower and deeper than normal.

Pay attention to your midsection. Focus on things like how your breathing and the movement of your muscles in your midsection move together. Pay attention to the way your body feels as you breathe.

Allow your breath to become both calm and natural. Allow your diagram and solar plexus to contribute to the “pot shaped” phase of your breathing but don’t force this. Your abdomen should extend out as you inhale making a pot like shape.

Continue this expertise in a calm and gentle manner allow yourself to become increasingly relaxed as you move through this technique.
