“A Civil War Hero”: The Story of Robert Smalls

Robert Smalls was a enslaved crew member on a Confederate ship, commandeered the ship and freed everybody on it. Started a business, newspaper, opened a school, and became a U.S. representative in the House. All in the 1800s.

A true legend!
