Struggle vs. Challenge

If many things in life feel like a constant struggle you may feel "morally superior" but often drained and discouraged. Sally Erickson describes the difference between “struggle” and “challenge.” On-going struggles in one’s life tend to slow one’s development whereas healthy challenges are exciting and meaningful. She questions the assumed “moral superiority” of staying engaged in activities that are experienced as struggles. This can help people walk away from struggles and reorient themselves to create instead a life of exciting challenge.
