US aerospace breached by ‘Chinese spy balloon’ – Pentagon

US media are ringing the alarm over a ‘Chinese spy balloon’ spotted in the skies above Montana, the home to several nuclear sites. US Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and former president Donald Trump are calling to shoot it down – yet Joe Biden has decided not to, citing the risk of debris falling on people. Chinese authorities, meanwhile, said they are aware of reports of a balloon, and currently working to verify them.

UPD: It is used for ‘mainly meteorological purposes’, the Chinese FM has said. The balloon has ‘deviated from its planned course, an incident which ‘The Chinese side regrets’ and vows to ‘properly handle’ the situation in communication with the US.
