Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said “global pressure” on Russia had to be increased significantly during his nightly television address on February 2. Zelenskiy also said the talks on Ukraine joining the European Union should begin this year. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited Kyiv on Thursday with a delegation of more than a dozen officials that promised military, financial and political aid before the first anniversary of the Feb. 24 invasion. The West stepped up pledges to deliver more arms to Ukraine in January. But the EU has made addressing corruption a requirement for Ukraine joining the 27-member bloc, a process that takes years. "We are continuing our fight against the internal enemy," President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in the video address late on Thursday, expressing gratitude to "all those involved in cleaning up our country. ”We will not leave any aggressive action of the occupier without our response. The enemy is in a specific stage when Russia's strategic defeat is already clear. But tactically, they still have the resources to make attempts to conduct offensive operations. I believe that Ukraine deserves to start negotiations on EU membership already this year. And I thank the President of the European Commission, her colleagues, and our friends in the EU for their considerable support on the path of integration and in protecting our state and people. It is military, financial, energy and social support. And these are the changes, by [adopting] which we ensure more cooperation between our institutions - [those] of Ukraine and the EU. Tomorrow is the second European integration day this week. The Ukraine-EU summit will take place. We are getting ready. “We continue our fight against the internal enemy. I am grateful to the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Bureau of Investigation, the Prosecutor General's Office and all those who are also involved in cleaning up our country. There will be new steps."
