Hypnagogic Imagery Technique

The Hypnagogic Imagery technique is a WILD technique from Stephen Laberge that can be found in his popular book “Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming”

The first step is to lie in bed and relax completely. Gently close your eyes and relax every part of your body. Let go of all muscular and mental tension. Breathe slowly and restfully. Let go of all thoughts worries or concerns.

While remaining relaxed gently focus on the imagery that will gradually appear as you drift closer to sleep. Observe these images passively, letting them begin and end of their own accord. Observe their movements gently without interfering with them. Watch them without attachment. The images will become more complex the closer you get to sleep.

Once the imagery becomes a vivid moving dream scene, allow yourself to be pulled into it. This also should be a gentle and passive action. Let your involvement with the scene draw you in but be careful, you must maintain a balance between involvement and non involvement, to far either way and you will either wake yourself or lose lucidity.
