Battles Of The Heart

In dark the demons gather to drums that shout for war
Readying their vile assault upon our temple's door
But even as the drums are calling legions up from hell
They also call the saints of God to battle just as well

Upon the walls of fortress Christ the army of the Lord
Stands ready for the enemy with banner, shield, and sword
Filled with courage and resolve, prepared to give our all
We know reluctant warriors are always first to fall

Up from the gloom the enemies come with standards black as night
We say a prayer for victory then leap into the fight
All night and day through the next the battle rages on
Many times we drive them back but still they won't be gone

They slash at us with weapons dipped in envy, greed and hate
As grimly we keep fighting on steadfastly tempting fate
But weariness is setting in the fighting takes its toll
A breach is made inside the wall we cannot plug the hole.

And even now the enemy is beating down the door
They've come to take us prisoner to hell forevermore

Suddenly from up above a mighty trumpet sounds
With fear and loathing in their eyes the foe starts giving ground
Shouts of triumph fill the air as we look toward the sky
In answer to our victory prayer the Lord of hosts arrives

He brings us reinforcements of love and truth and light
The brilliance of his righteousness stands framed against the night
The enemy in terror runs against Him they can't stand
They flee the Lord in disarray our victory's at hand

God again has brought us peace His walls we will rebuild
We'll go on and live our lives for now the drums are stilled
Out there in the darkness his course does Satan plot
But the Lord stands ready for other battles of the heart.
