Snakes in the shelter.

This video answers two questions I’ve seen asked about the Appalachian Trail.
1. Are there snakes in Appalachian Trail hiking shelters?
2. Why do you pitch your tent inside the hiking shelter?

When I first walked up to this shelter, two women were just staring at the picnic table. They didn’t say anything at first that I remember but the table was partially made of metal. The snake had crawled down inside one of the picnic table metal legs. They stopped me before I sat down and told me. They left and then somebody I didn’t like walked up after they left.
