"The Son of God" (KJV) or "A Son of the Gods" (NIV, ESV, NASB)?

There is a serious discrepancy between the KJV and modern Bibles, such as the NIV, ESV, NASB and NLT in Daniel 3:25, in which the King James Version calls the fourth man in the fire with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, "The Son of God", whereas the aforementioned post-King James versions call Jesus, "A Son of the Gods".
