The Big Issues Affecting the Family Now with Guest Marsha Blackburn
When Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022, United States Senator Marsha Blackburn was one of the many federal legislators who were encouraged that states and local governments can now be in a position to better protect babies. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Sen. Blackburn shares with Dr. Tim Clinton that while there has been a victory for life at the Supreme Court level, there is still a lot of work to be done. Listen today as the senior Senator from Tennessee discusses the uphill battle the Senate now faces in passing the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
About Today's Guest: Sen. Marsha Blackburn
Sen. Marsha Blackburn is the senior United States Senator representing Tennessee, a seat she has held since 2019. Ms. Blackburn began her career in public service in 1995 when she was named executive director of the Tennessee Film, Entertainment, and Music Commission. She continued her advocacy on behalf of creators and rights-owners in Washington, DC, establishing the bipartisan songwriters caucus and also fighting for passage of the Music Modernization Act, which revolutionized music licensing processes. In 1998, Ms. Blackburn was elected to the Tennessee State Senate. In the state legislature, she earned a reputation for fiscal responsibility and government accountability by identifying wasted resources and offering realistic solutions to Tennessee’s budget challenges. In 2002, Blackburn was elected to the U.S House of Representatives to represent Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District based on her record in the state legislature. She brought her Tennessee values to the nation’s capital, and became a leader in the fight for small, efficient federal government that is accountable to its citizens. As a Congresswoman, Marsha was often selected by her colleagues to lead the charge for principled conservativism. Her congressional career was also noted for her chairmanship of the energy and commerce committee’s subcommittee on communications and technology, as well as bipartisan expertise in defending songwriters’ and performers’ rights. Sen. Blackburn and her husband, Chuck, have two grown children, three grandchildren, and make their home in Williamson County, Tennessee.
