Revelation 10:1-2
Remember back to chapter 5 we are introduced to a "strong angel" that is more than likely Gabriel
Who is this mighty Angel?
The description we are given is very similar to the description we are given of Christ in Revelation 1
Revelation 1:12-16
The description is similar but not exact
Some scholars believe though that this mighty angel described here is Christ Himself
That is a fair assessment but I don't necessarily agree with it
In the Book of Revelation, Christ is not compared with any angel but is continually presented as Lord of the Angels
Now some will say but in the Old Testament the pre-incarnate Christ appeared as the Angel of the LORD
Those are called Christophanies
In those circumstances the Angel of the LORD is identified as LORD; (Genesis 18-19 w/Abraham)
Pre-Incarnate Christ appearing as the Angel of the Lord in th Old Testament ceases when the seed of God is planted in the womb of Mary and Christ becomes Incarnate
In the Book of Revelation, the Incarnation has already taken place
Also, John refers to this mighty angel as another
"I saw another"
Well there is no other when it comes to Christ
Therefore, from a theological standpoint, I don't believe this mighty angel is Christ
So who could it be? I would make the case that it is Michael the ArchAngel
Michael is the only Angel referred to as an Archangel; that doesn't mean he is the only one but he is the only one referred to that in Scripture
Jude 9
Michael is VERY significant
Michael means (Who Is Like God)
Trinity = 3 High Ranking Angels assigned to each members and their function within the Godhead
Holy Spirit = Gabriel (announcements)
The Son = Lucifer (worship) this entire battle is for worship
The Father = Michael (warring angel) does God's bidding
Michael is one Who Is Like God
Notice this angel is given complete authority over land and sea; one foot on land and the other in the sea
Michael throughout Scripture is sent on behalf of God to handle God's business
Story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego
Daniel 3:24-30
God sent His angel; more than likely Michael who does the battling for the Lord
Michael battles the Prince of Persia on his way to Daniel
Revelation 10:3-4 says, "and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke. 4 And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down.”
Literally no point for speculation here
Revelation 10:5-7
No more delay the plan of God which is quite mysterious will finally be accomplished and finished
Revelation 10:8-11
We are not sure what the little scroll is but it is the Word of God
Interesting that it's described as bittersweet
Things coming are so terrible that it's bitter
Yet, God is still redeeming people therefore it's sweet
Have to take the bitter with the sweet
Sometimes we don't like to do that
John is told to digest the Word of God and then share it
Same thing was told to the prophet Ezekiel
Ezekiel 3:1-4
This reiterates the importance for each of us to be fed on the Word of God daily
One Year Bible Plan
Get in the Word so it can flow out of you
Reality of God's judgment but His Word is still sweeter than honey
Revelation 11
Revelation 11:1-2
John is told to measure the Temple
Now when is John writing this? 92-95 AD
Temple was destroyed in 70 AD
What Temple is he measuring then? 3rd Temple yet to be built
This tells me a 3rd Temple must be reconstructed and it's an actual structure; it's not spiritual
Daniel 9:27
Antichrist will broke a peace deal to build a 3rd Temple
Antichrist will establish peace for 7 years
In the middle he will break that peace treaty and proclaim to be God
2 Thessalonians 2:1-4
When the Antichrist breaks the peace treaty midway through the 7 years the Jewish people will have their eyes opened
So will there be a 3rd Temple? There has to be
Every year on August 9 there is a group of devout Jews that march to the Temple Mt to lay the cornerstone of the 3rd Temple (symbolic)
42 months = 3.5 years
Revelation 11:3-14
42 months = 3.5 years
Babylonian calendar = 360 days
1260 divided by 360 - 3.5 years
Daniel 7:25 tells us the Antichrist change the times (maybe to the Babylonian calendar)
