Revelation 5:1
Right Hand = Authority
Scroll written on the inside was common
Scroll written on the inside and the back was uncommon
In the Ancient world a scroll written on both sides was a title, deed or last will and testament
They signified an instrument of ownership that could only be opened by a legal redeemer of rightful heir
These types of scrolls were private contracts kept away from the public
Inside would contain all the details; outside would be a brief summary like a modern book cover
This scroll is the title deed to earth
As Jesus opens this Scroll, He receives His inheritance as the Son of God
Title deed shows Christ's ownership of the world that was created by the Father through the son
This scroll will be given to the Son to right those things that are wrong
To redeem what was lost in the Garden
In the Garden the first Adam surrendered their authority that God gave him
The Second Adam will take back the authority
Revelation 5:2-4
All the universe was searched but none found worthy
Why does John weep?
John knew if no one was found worthy to open the scroll, then none could make all the wrongs right
The hopeless condition of the present state of the world would continue; suffering, pain, death would be continual
John's tears were premature
Revelation 5:5
John looks for a lion but sees a Lamb
Adds another dimension to John's description of the Throne
Genesis 4 = Throne description (Powerpoint on LED Wall)
5 - In the Midst of the Throne (Jesus as a Lamb though it had been slain)
Interesting to note: Rest of Revelation, the only title Christ will go is Lamb (19x)
Revelation 6
Revelation 6:1-2
1st Seal - Releases a White Horse with a rider who has a bow but no arrows
Bloodless conquest
This person will come in peace that is a deceptive peace; he will eventually bring war
This horse and rider is the Antichrist
Crown = Stephanos
STEPHANOS = wreath like one on an Olympic Athlete (On TV Screens)
Christ has a different crown
DIADEMA = royal crown (On TV Screens)
Antichrist is not royalty or nobility
Titles of the Antichrist
Man of Lawlessness
2 Thessalonians 2:1-9
The Abomination that Causes Desolation
Matthew 24:15-24
Jesus quotes Daniel 9 which has a dual meaning
168 BC prophecy of Daniel comes to pass
Greek King Antiochus - name change to Epiphanes
Slaughters Jews and a pig on the altar in the Temple
This is referred to as the abomination of desolation
1 year later - Maccabean revolt
Jesus says this event is futuristic
Antichous Epiphanes was a type of the Antichrist
Antichrist is a man not woman btw
Antichrist will declare that he is God in the temple
The Jewish temple then must be rebuilt
Some one will broker a deal between the Muslims and Jews for the Temple to be rebuilt
Antichrist will deceive the Jewish people
It is not until halfway through the Tribulation that the Antichrist reveals the true intentions
Is the antichrist here? Possibile. My opinion he will in some way be Jewish
Revelation 6:3-4 says, "When He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come [b]and see.” 4 Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword."
Sword = War
RHOMPHAIA = sword that brings order and justice (ON TV SCREENS)
MACHARIA = dagger like for assassination (ON TV SCREENS)
Red = bloodshed
Revelation 6:5-6 says, "When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales[c] in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A [d]quart of wheat for a [e]denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.”
Black Horse = Famine & Economic Collapse
Quart of wheat = Loaf of Bread
Denarius = Days Wage
Oil & Wine = Phrase for the wealthy (some will have stockpile)
COVID19 showed us how fragile everything is
Revelation 6:7-8 says, "When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see.” 8 So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And [f]power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth."
Pale Horse = Death & Hades
Pale = Chloros (greenish)
4 weapons - Sword, Feminine, Plague & Beasts
After WW2 more people died of disease than the actual war; war brought about terrible conditions
25% - 8 billion - 2 billion Christians - 1.5 billion deaths in a short amount of time (1st 3.5 yrs)
It only gets worse
Conclusion
These extreme warnings demonstrate God's love and grace not just justice and holiness
He is using a sledge hammer to wake people up
These judgments are completely under His control
This is a warning for us to share the Gospel
