Ced Ride Mi Bon Amigunan di Mi BIDA My Best Friends

CEDRIC RIDDERPLAAT (CEDRIDE)
While I use the artistic name CEDRIDE, I was born Cedric Ridderplaat on 14 of July 1944, fourth child in a large family in the colourful Otrabanda neighbourhood of CURAÇAO.
From very small I was captivated and inspired by the sounds, words, expressions and rhythms of voices
and instruments of daily life of the “barrio”.
Influenced from early by the local greats, I sang in children’s choirs, progressing to youth vocal groups and musical bands over the island.
My father admonished me “to learn Papiamento correctly, and the history of the language and our people” if I really persisted on becoming a singer/composer/writer rather that an architect.
My vocation has since been the development of my talents and expressing such to serve the culture, language and awareness of identity of my people.
I am grateful to have been blessed with talents in my vocation, allowing me to travel the world, have wonderful experiences, form lasting and stimulating friendships and give back to my people.
Above all is the love and appreciation my local society and people all over the world have shown, enriching me far beyond expectation or imagination.
This has resulted a.o. in awards and recognition locally and internationally like -First Mass in Papiamentu 1967 (MisaAlegre);
-Tambu di Oro in 1969 in Curaçao (golden drum);
- Festival Internacional de la Voz y de la Canción’ in Puerto Rico 1973;
-First Concert with Big Band in Curaçao 1975;
-The Cola Debrot Award 1999 (literary award)
-Royal Condecoration Kingdom of the Netherlands 2004;
-Official Recognition by the Cuban Government in 2004;
-Official Recognition by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in 2013;
In the course of my career many of my songs and compositions have become classics and evergreens in Curaçao and the Papiamentu diaspora.
All my creative efforts, especially the musical and literary ones, breathe the pulses, the language, the heritage and the culture of my cherished people, who inter continue to support me and my offerings As I matured I started wrting more and developing my talents in the plastic arts., producing may well received paintings and sculptures.
