A newly released body camera video shows the moments before and after a Henderson police officer shot a burglary suspect who was allegedly reaching for a gun during a pursuit on Christmas day.
The Henderson Police Department published the video from the Dec. 25 shooting involving Officer Jordan Hijar in the area of Tiger Lily Way and Viewmont Drive, near Horizon Drive and the Interstate 11 freeway.
Acting Deputy Chief Eric Buck said in the video that two people found in the area matched the description of suspects wanted in some car burglaries that morning. A burglary victim contacted Hijar around 8:20 a.m. and said the two suspects were still in the area, and a handgun was reported as stolen out of the car.
Hijar found the two suspects, who ignored verbal commands, and a brief foot chase developed. Buck says that during the chase, one suspect, identified as 20-year-old Ozzie Seeman, took out a handgun. Hijar opened fire and struck Seeman, who was taken to Sunrise Hospital.
Seeman remains hospitalized, according to Buck. No other injuries were reported.
The video released Thursday shows Hijar running after the two people and yelling at them to show their hands. At one point, Seeman turns back and appears to reach down onto the ground for something.
"Let me see your f***** hands now. Don't grab it!" Hijar yells at Seeman before firing five shots.
"Shots fired, shots fired," he says into his radio, before firing three more shots.
"Drop it! We got shots fired, one down," he says, switching between yelling at Seeman and speaking into his radio. "Don't reach for that f****** gun! One's still running, one's still running. Don't move!"
Hijar tells dispatch that he shot Seeman in the arm and leg and that police would be applying tourniquets.
Seeman is facing three counts of auto burglary, along with charges of conspiracy to commit burglary, possession of a stolen gun, resisting a public officer with a firearm, and grand larceny of a gun.
The other suspect has been identified as a 15-year-old juvenile who was apprehended by another officer a few minutes after the shooting. He has been booked into Clark County Juvenile Hall.
