Romans 8 - Can we make the world better?

On the whole humanity knows the world is screwed up and even has a deeply rooted desire for things to be better, to be right, to be perfect, but ultimately each person's idea of what perfect looks like would differ from the next, and most certainly wouldn't look like God's perfect. What does this have to do with God wanting to save us?
