Prospective Memory Training

Prospective memory is the process of remembering to perform a planned action or intention at a future point in time.
Prospective memory is an essential part of many lucid dreaming techniques and is something worth improving if you want to lucid dream consistently. The following training was devised by Stephen Laberge and can be found in more detail in his book “Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming.”

This training is meant to be practiced over the course of an entire week.

You begin by picking for target events for each day during the week. Each day should have its own list of targets.

These targets are going to be used as triggers for Dream signs. They can be just about anything, the such as the next time you see an animal or the next time you turn on a light. The goal is to remember your intention when these events occur and do a dream check at those points.

You should begin your day by reading that days targets, resolve yourself to remember to do a dream check at the next occurrence of each target.

After this you simply do your best to succeed at remembering to do the dream check at the occurrence of each target throughout the day.

At the end of the day write down how many targets you succeeded in noticing. If you missed the first occurrence of your target consider this a fail, even if you noticed its occurrence later on in the day.

If your target never occurred during the day, write this down as well.

Repeat this process every day until you hit most, or all of your targets, be sure to track your success and improvement.
