S. Korea's online spending reached record high in 2022

Online spending in South Korea reached an all-time high last year exceeding 200 trillion won, or around 162 billion U.S. dollars at the current exchange rate.
Data from Statistics Korea shows that online purchases came to 1-hundred-67-point-6 billion dollars last year, up more than 10 percent from the previous year.
This was largely driven by the surge in spending on travel and transportation in the service sector as worries over the pandemic eased.
Online transactions of food delivery, however, rose by only 1-point-4 percent from a year earlier.
The agency says that while there is an upward trend in online spending, the growth rate is beginning to slow with the lifting of COVID restrictions.
