Iranian Couple Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Dancing Video

A court in Iran has sentenced a young couple to 10 years and 6 months in jail each, after they were seen dancing in a video in front of Tehran's Freedom Tower, which was seen as a symbol of defiance against the regime. Astiyazh Haghighi and Amir Mohammad Ahmadi, both in their 20s, were popular Instagram bloggers with a following in Tehran, before they were arrested in November 2022.

Contrastingly, a man who beheaded his 17-year-old wife in February 2022 was given a sentence of 8 years and 2 months in January 2023, and a filmmaker, Mozghan Ilanio, received a 10-year prison term for removing a headscarf.
