How To Negotiate A Threshold

Threshold Assessment Work Flow, what is it and how do we do it?

Whenever we approach a place that will restrict our movement, specifically the threshold of a door way, we want to clear as much unknown space as we can on both sides of that threshold while limiting our exposure. If we know that we have no choice but to cross that threshold into that next room, we MUST clear that space as efficiently and safely as possible. My experience on two way ranges has taught me to take as many shots as I can beyond the threshold, only once I’ve cleared as much of the space as possible will I initiate what has to happen next…I have to rapidly cross that threshold and fiercely engage whatever threat is on “the other side”! That’s how we can negotiate a threshold, minimizing our exposure, while increasing our lethality and survivability.

Your home is your training ground! You should be able to close your eyes and walk your house, flow like water through it with your working tools. We do not train CQB because it’s fancy, we train it because we want to be prepared to handle a home invasion of it ever happens at our homes, our neighbors house and they’re screaming for help from inside their house…the list goes on but we train this for the same reason we train what to do if our house is on fire…to be prepared for the worst case scenario that we hope and pray never happens.

As always, seek out training! We don’t know what we don’t know in this life which is where experts come in. Reach out to skilled instructors and get training, you may never need to use the skills you’ll learn but, you will be more prepared and capable!
