Best & Worst Video Game Sidekicks & Companions
Some video game companions are awesome, others are, well, Ashley from Resident Evil 4. In this YouTube Short, we're going to take a look at the Best & Worst Video Game Sidekicks & Companions to go with us on a journey.
Miles Tails Power
A take-off of miles per hour, Tails was introduced to the video game community in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. While he can sometimes be annoying, he adds that extra little hit point that you sometimes need. In addition, he can also grab rings throughout levels that you may miss.
Yoshi
First introduced in Super Mario World, Yoshi has been a constant amazing companion to Mario throughout the years. Even when he's trying to take us down with blue shells in Mario Kart, you got to remember that Mario ultimately gets the last laugh every time he donkey punches him in the back of the head to make him spit out his tongue.
Navi
Hey, listen! I swear to God if I ever hear this in another Zelda game I'm going to throw my controller! Navi was one of the most annoying characters ever and something that reduced the enjoyment of a game. I understand Navi was supposed to be helpful, but after a while, I just didn't want her help anymore.
Daxter
I'm not sure if he's supposed to be a weasel, or what he is, but the one thing he is for sure is a smartass companion that's actually helpful. he helps keep the conversation light and the plot moving along throughout all of the Jax games. Why don't we get these anymore? Bring them back!
Baby Mario
Okay, Nintendo, what gives? You took your mascot and you made him one of the most annoying characters ever? Why would you do that? Baby Mario's shrieking and crying and Yoshi's Island is one of the worst sounds in any video game. On top of that, what does baby Mario do to help you in the game? Nothing! Kind of like a real kid, he's just a burden if you think about it.
Duck Hunt Dog
How many games make you want to shoot your companion? You know, the other character that's supposed to help you? None will bring out anger and spite quite like Duck Hunt and the Dog. Named the biggest jerk in video games on multiple lists, anytime you screw up he is there to rub your face in it. Kind of like when your dog makes a mess on the carpet and you rub its face in it. Maybe there's some poetic justice here? I don't know, but he's just an ass.
Clank
There's so much charm that has gone into Clank's character over the years that I just want to hang out with him. Clever and witty, amazingly well written and voice acted, Clank ads genuine quality companionship to any adventure. Add in the fact that he can become a jetpack or a helicopter for Ratchet, and you can see how he becomes one of the best companions in any video game series anywhere.
These are just our opinions for some of the best and worst video game sidekicks & companions, stay tuned as we will do more of these in the future.
