The recent presidential election in Brazil was highly contested and the country's Supreme Court holds a lot of power, which is concerning to journalist Glenn Greenwald. The court has jailed protesters, censored social media, and the new government is planning to ban "fake news." Greenwald believes that Brazil is becoming an extreme manifestation of the global trend of governments looking to control the internet and limit free speech. A Supreme Court justice, Alexandria de Mores, has the power to censor and silence individuals, including politicians, with no reason, evidence, or fair trial. Greenwald was never scared to criticize a government official until he started criticizing de Mores, which is a sign of a repressive climate.
