Where is God’s Word? - Show Notes

Summary:
I’m often asked what Bible version I recommend or why I use the King James Bible. While the subject of textual criticism is vast, I want to give a summary of why I believe we can hold in our hands the accurate and perfectly preserved Word of God today.

Notes:
Wescott and Hort - No two men have done more to influence modern Bible translations than Brooke Foss Westcott and Fenton John Anthony Hort. All modern English Bible translations come from the Greek New Testament text these two men edited except for the King James Bible! The KJV’s New Testament was translated from the Greek Textus Receptus or Received Text, not the corrupted one edited by Wescott and Hort.

"No one now, I suppose, holds that the first three chapters of Genesis, for example, give a literal history - I could never understand how anyone reading them with open eyes could think they did - yet they disclose to us a Gospel. So it is probably elsewhere.” – 1890 Mar. 4th - Westcott

"If you make a decided conviction of the absolute infallibility of the N.T. practically a sine qua non for cooperation, I fear I could not join you, even if you were willing to forget your fears about the origin of the Gospels.” - 1860 May 1st - Hort to Lightfoot

"at present I find the presumption in favour of the absolute truth - I reject the word infallibility - of Holy Scripture overwhelming.” - 1861 May 5th - Westcott to Hort

"Also - but this may be cowardice - I have a sort of craving that our text should be cast upon the world before we deal with matters likely to brand us with suspicion. I mean, a text, issued by men already known for what will undoubtedly be treated as dangerous heresy, will have great difficulties in finding its way to regions which it might otherwise hope to reach, and whence it would not be easily banished by subsequent alarms.” - 1861 Apr. 12th - Hort to Westcott

Scriptures:
All Scripture references are from the King James Version of the Bible

Psalm 12:6-8. Matthew 4:3-4, Acts 2:1-22, Genesis 11:1-9, Psalm 19:1-4, Acts 17:24-27, Genesis 3:1-5, 2 Peter 1:16-21, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Mark 7:13, John 10:34-35, Psalm 119:11-16, Revelation 22:17-19

I use a Tyndale large print King James Bible that can be found here:

Takeaway:
So how do we know which English Bible version is true? Compare them. Do they say the same thing? Does your version uphold the deity of Christ? The Blood atonement? His virgin birth? The imputation of righteousness to the believer? The assurance of eternal life? If it does not, might I suggest you investigate which Greek text your Bible was translated from? If it was edited by Wescott and Hort, it is a Gnostic heresy and should be rejected.
