Canada: Federal leaders attend Holocaust memorial ceremony – January 27, 2023

In Ottawa, federal leaders and other speakers deliver remarks at a ceremony to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In attendance are Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, as well as Ahmed Hussen (federal minister of housing and diversity and inclusion), Verna McGregor (elder of the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation), Annette Wildgoose (the daughter of a Holocaust survivor), Artur Wilczynski (Canada’s head of delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance), Ronen Hoffman (Israeli ambassador to Canada), David Cohen (U.S. ambassador to Canada), Sabine Sparwasser (German ambassador to Canada), Shimon Koffler Fogel (CEO of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs), Agnes Klein (Holocaust survivor), Andrea Freedman (CEO of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa), Mark Sutcliffe (mayor of Ottawa), and Rabbi Idan Scher (leader of the Machzikei Hadas congregation in Ottawa). Laurence Wall (CBC news presenter) presides over the ceremony.
