Canada: Liberal MPs on convoy anniversary, assisted dying law – January 26, 2023
Liberal MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal party holds the first day of its winter caucus meetings. Minister David Lametti (justice) comments on the appointment of Amira Elghawaby as Canada's first representative to combat Islamophobia as well as the inappropriate use of the medical assistance in dying law. He is also discusses the one-year anniversary of the convoy protests, which began on the weekend of January 28 and 29, 2022 in downtown Ottawa. Ministers Patty Hadju (indigenous services) and Gudie Hutchings (rural economic development) as well as MP Jenna Sudds (Kanata—Carleton) also comment on the convoy anniversary. MP Jaime Battiste (Sydney—Victoria) responds to questions from reporters on the priorities of the Indigenous Liberal caucus in the coming months.
