Alfre 'Frey' Holland, an young New Yorker with a criminal past found as an orphaned infant in New York's Holland Tunnel, suddenly finds herself in the strange land of Athia. Bonded with a sapient, golden vambrace she calls "Cuff" that gifts her incredible powers, she now must find a way back to New York and her cat, while surviving encounters with fantastical monsters and tyrannical matriarchs that seek to end her life.
