The saga continues! In a crazy turn of events, #JayZ has offered to buy #Bacardi out of their 50% share of cognac brand, #Dusse, for $1.5bn. Bacardi declined Jay’s offer.

It looks like Hov is playing chess, not checkers here, though.

Firstly, Jay and Bacardi are 50/50 partners in D’usse. And the reason this is all happening, is that 10 years after the launch of D’usse, a buyout clause was automatically triggered. This clause meant that Jay could sell his 50% share to Bacardi and Bacardi would have to pay Jay for the market value of his stake. We’re at the 10 year point now. Hence this.

Jay felt his 50% stake in D’usse was worth $2.5bn. Bacardi rejected Jay’s valuation, valuing Jay’s 50% share at only $460mn.

Jay has then responded to Bacardi’s valuation by offering to buy Bacardi’s share out at $1.5bn. Which is about 3.5x Bacardi’s own valuation of a 50% stake in the company.

Bacardi have now rejected Hov’s offer.

Which, in turn, increases the value of Hov’s stake by Bacardi rejecting the offer.

What do you make of this? Do you see this situation resolving itself? How much do you think Hov will end up getting out of Bacardi for his stake in D’usse? ⬇️
