Maelo pukek is a traditional method used by Minangkabau fishermen to catch fish on the seafront or beach. Maelo pukek means pulling trawls to catch fish in the sea. Maelo pukek is a tradition. hereditary for fishermen almost throughout the coast of Ranah Minang Before maelo pukek, fishermen first spread the pukek out to sea at a distance of 200 to 250 meters from the shoreline by boat. Pukek is spread wide following the shoreline then the fishermen return to the beach.
