Sounds of the Bells, Doug's Tricked Out Version, Douglas Niedt, Guitarist

"Sounds of the Bells" by João Pernambuco is one of the most famous guitar pieces in Brazil. It is a maxixe and also has elements of Brazilian choro music. Altering the rhythm patterns, melodies, bass lines, harmonizations, and other elements of repeated measures or sections is an essential part of authentically performing Brazilian choro music. This gives the music a "vibe" of spontaneity and an improvisatory flair. In my "tricked-out" version, I keep in mind the various rhythmic patterns typical to the maxixe and choro.
