THE GRATE ESCAPE ARTIST: Woman Pulled From Third Storm Drain In Two Years
A woman has baffled emergency services in the USA after they had to pull her from a storm drain for the third time in just 22 months.
Lyndsey Jane Kennedy crawled down a drain in Delray Beach, Florida state, after police found her swimming in a canal on 18th January.
After a lengthy stand-off police and firefighters eventually managed to pull her out using a ladder and a rescue harness.
She was treated for minor injuries before being taken to hospital for a check-up.
But it has emerged that this was her third drain drama in less than two years.
Police first rescued her in Delray in March 2021 - when she was aged 43 - and she claimed to have been wandering the sewer system for three weeks.
Kennedy told police she had got lost and had survived by drinking a can of ginger ale she had found still sealed in the pipework.
She was rescued again just two months later from a storm drain in Grand Prairie, Texas state.
Her mum told police she has a long record of doing "odd things" and "making bad decisions".
Delray Beach Police Department said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: "Around 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, Delray Beach police officers and firefighters responded to a call of someone possibly in distress while swimming in the canal near the 500-block of Lindell Boulevard.
"When officers asked if the woman needed help, she ignored them and climbed into a storm drain pipe.
"The woman refused to come out and began crawling farther into the culvert pipe, which crossed under Lindell Boulevard.
"Firefighters were able to contain her between two sections of pipe.
"Delray Beach Fire Rescue Special Operations Team members used a ladder and rescue harness to get her out.
"The woman, identified as Lyndsey Jane Kennedy, appeared to have minor injuries.
"Firefighter-paramedics cared for her on scene and transported her to the hospital for further evaluation.
"Back in March 2021, Kennedy was also rescued from a storm drain by Delray Beach Fire Rescue."
