Inside The Blue Mosque in Istanbul during the Coronavirus pandemic

Whilst in Istanbul, I was told by a Turkish local that I could go inside the blue mosque, which I wasn't planning on doing. I'm not a religious person, but I do like to look at the architecture of holy places like churches and mosques, but I rarely go inside. I like to keep my camera away from people praying in general to try to be respectful of their privacy. However, it's apparently fine to record within the blue mosque except during prayer times. Visitors aren't allowed inside the blue mosque in Istanbul during prayer time anyway.

There are two entrances into the blue mosque, one for people to pray, one for visitors, but ultimately you end up in the same place, inside the blue mosque. You walk through this short walkway, take off your shoes and put them into a plastic bag and carry them around with you, or put them onto a shelf. This is because the floor is covered with carpet, unlike in churches where the floor tends to be wood or stone. In churches there are usually wooden pews to sit on, but in mosques, the people sit or kneel on the floor, so a carpet is required. The carpet was very comfortable under my feet.

The intricate patterns on the roof and the walls of the blue mosque were amazing, just like when you look at the inside of churches. A lot of effort is put into making these places of worship really nice places to be in.

The blue mosque in Istanbul has 6 minarets, which are the spires you see around Ottoman mosques. During the call to prayer, the call comes out of the speakers on one of these towers, letting everybody know that it's time to pray. One of the minarets was under renovation, as was most of the mosque's courtyard during my visit.
