What is a Ghost Pipe?

In this video Aaron Hilliard, the creator of Mushroom Wonderland gives us a look at a very unusual and somewhat rare plant known as the Ghost Pipe, Indian Ghost Pipe, AKA Monotropa uniflora. This is a strange plant that doesn't need photosynthesis to create energy, it actually feeds on the mycelium of the Russula brevipies , a mycorrhizal woodland fungus which in turn feeds on the roots of conifer trees here in the PNW.
