Phnom Penh Night Market during thunderstorm 🇰🇭

Tourism has pretty much completely disappeared from Phnom Penh, so most of the parts of the city that were developed for tourism are completely deserted, especially around the riverside area of Cambodia's capital city.

We spotted the Phnom Penh night market a few days earlier and decided to hear there for some food one evening, but as this is the time of the year where it rains heavily every evening, with thunderstorms, we had to wait until the rain died off enough to actually enjoy our evening. The market is set up (kind of) for the rain, with tarpaulins above some parts, but they're hung really low and then sink even lower because of the water being held there.

In this market there were lots of different clothing items for sale, probably all fake, but very cheap. There were some souvenirs, some watches, jewellery, belts and so on. The main reason we came was to try some local khmer food, but it seems that most of the stuff available in the food market was your typical dishes like fried rice and fried noodles which you get in most asian countries.

We tried some beef on a stick in a good sauce, a seafood noodle dish and beef fried rice. All good. The juice drinks were also very good.

Shout out Cambodian people for being calm, pleasant, clean and friendly. In markets around the world, you generally get hounded by sales people trying to grab your attention - not here, they've got their products, approach if you want to buy something. You may get the odd person saying hello in a friendly way.
