Foreigner in massive Mumbai laundry slum 🇮🇳
In the previous video, we were at the gate of India in Mumbai, and a guy was trying to sell us a tour of Mumbai, which we were not really wanting to do, as we had stuff planned for later in the day, but we decided that we could make it quicker by missing some things out that we'd already seen, however, we seen the price was 3500, which I think is very expensive for India, so I used my newly acquired Indian bargaining skills and told him I wouldn't pay more than 2000 rupees.
The guy was friendly, and went away, returned, went away and returned a few times with lower prices, but I said I won't go lower than 2000, which to be honest, still seems really expensive, but he accepted 2000, so reluctantly, I accepted.
Regardless of your opinion of whether 2000 seems cheap or expensive in your country, 2000 is a lot of money in India, and with the guide barely speaking English and not actually giving us any sort of information, we actually just paid 2000 for a 60 minute or so taxi ride. A few days earlier, I paid 1750 in an Uber from Pune to Mumbai, which took over 3 hours. So you do the math.
We seen the outdoor laundrette of Mumbai which is apparently famous. It's called Dhobi Ghat. The only extra thing that the driver offered, was that we weren't really approached by people trying to sell us stuff, or anything else, as he was evidently the guide. The kid at the laundry was asking him some stuff in their language, but I have no idea what he was asking. The kid never asked us for any money or anything, just said hello and stuff.
We then went to Fisherman's village, which is what it is.
We drove down Marine drive, past the beach we visited earlier in the week.
He then drove us up the hill where a few of the final sites were. We visited a garden, the hanging gardens it's called, the shoe statue tourist attraction, with a great view over the bay of Mumbai, then he quickly explained something about the Parsi people who let vultures eat their dead relatives, which is bizarre, but whatever.
We then went to Jain temple, which to this day I have no idea whether it's a Jainism temple or a Hinduism temple. Our guide said yes to both. Now you see my point about overpaying, as he was really just a driver, not a guide.
On the way back to the hotel he showed us Victoria Terminus which is a cool building.
Mumbai is cool, but very sweaty.
