Identifying WILD MUSHROOMS growing in January - 2023

In this video Aaron Hilliard, Mycologist, VP of a mycological society, and creator of Mushroom Wonderland takes us on a walk in the forest to see what kind of wild and amazing mushrooms the new year has brought us.
Despite it being a pretty lame autumn for mushies, with a pretty hard winter pounding in mid December, the fungi is still finding a way to grow. Let Aaron show you in stunning 4k some of the mushroom you may encounter in the forest. Mushroom's do have a tendency of being a bit regional, and that is not to say these mushrooms wont be growing near you, but they might not be. This video was shot in the Puget Sound basin, right across the water from Seattle Washington, right at about sea level.
This was shot owner the course of about a week, so if you notice inconsistencies in Aarons attire, then that would explain it.
We first encounter a handsome saprobic mushroom that is growing among leaf duff known as the "Ambiguous Stropharia," or Stropharia ambigua. A fairly large and attractive mushroom with a yellowish cap that often has dangling appendages hanging from the margin.
The next is a look-alike of a medicinal mushroom known the world over- but what we look at it the "False Turkey Tail," or Stereum hirsutum.
Then we come across an impressive flush of Trametes gibbosa, or the "Lumpy Bracket." This one is actually closely related to the Turkey Tail, but not known for its medicinal properties.
We next encounter some Xylaria hypoxylon, a strange little log loving mushroom that puts off amazing puffs of spores when agitated.
We get to see some of the "Rosy Oysterlings," Scytinotus longinquus, a little oyster looking mushroom that is super common this time of year growing on downed logs. Next to it is a stump totally covered in mycelium of the "Fairy Parachutes," Marasmiellus candidus, a delicate yet impressive flush of fungi.
Then we see an amazing conifer log covered in Pycnoporellus fulgens, Dacrymyces chrysospermus, and Fomitopsis mounceae. This is an episode you don't want to miss!!
