4 Delicious Wild Mushrooms You Can Find For Yourself

In this video I pull out some old footage from last fall that never made it in to any of my foraging videos. These are mushrooms I found growing in "urban" environments, like parks, lawns, and even a driveway. They are also some of my favorite wild edible mushrooms, just going to prove that you don't necessarily have to go far to find amazing mushrooms to forage, identify, and gather for yourself.
These particular mushrooms can be found around the world, although with slightly varying genetics and fruiting at different times, but here in the Pacific Northwest they prefer to fruit in the autumn after the long dry summer when the fall rain finally falls and the temperature is about 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit.
We have a look at the "Birch Bolete," or Leccinum scabrum. This is an interesting 'bolete' that only grows in association with Birch trees. It has a "hairy" stipe and spongy pores and is very popular in eastern Europe.
The shaggy Mane, Coprinus comatus is up next. One of the first mushrooms I ever learned to identify and one of the most common lawn dwelling culinary fungi out here. Also a delicious edible.
Then we look at the "Wood Blewit," or Lepista/Clitocybe nuda. It has two names right now because science is having a hard time finding where to actually place it. I was convinced it was in the genus Lepista right up until a professional mycologist I know was still calling it Clitocybe. so who knows, but what I do know is that it is a great and popular edible that often grows on woodland edges in the grass of fields and is easy to identify.
Finally the "Porcini," or Boletus edulis, maybe the most popular and sought after wild edible mushroom that grows in the world. An amazing pore surface mushroom that grows in association with trees. This is my favorite mushroom of all time to eat.
